The Earth Observation Community announces new software for ILWIS – The AMSDEC-SADC Toolbox. This plug-in enables users to handle and process data gained from services developed within the AMESD SADC Thematic Action (http://www.amesd.co.bw/about-us). The AMESD SADC-Thematic Action aims to empower the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and its member states to sustainably manage their agricultural and environmental resources. It currently develops three information services to address decision needs for the SADC region:
Agricultural Service: monitors the state of the crops and rangeland.
Drought Service: monitors drought during the whole year and provides drought outlooks.
Fire Service: provides a daily fire risk indication, detection and follow-up of active fires (in real time) and burnt area assessments during the fire season.
The AMESD-SADC Toolbox allows users to import a multitude of data disseminated via “EUMETCast-GEONETCast” to ILWIS (minimum ILWIS 3.7.2). ILWIS’s existing processing capability can be used for further analysis.
